The apartment is located in the city center (across from the old Bezalel Art School, now the Bezalel School of Architecture).
 Downtown Jerusalem is undergoing a huge process of gentrification. The city has closed several streets to traffic, including nearby Ben Yehuda Street and two streets in the immediate vicinity of the apartment, and it is developing other pedestrian malls. These changes attract up-market shops. The light rail will make it easier for people to reach the city center and will reduce car traffic. The new Bezalel Art School will be adjacent to the Russian compound and students already get a rental subsidy in the town center as an incentive to move there. As you probably know there are many new luxury complexes being built in the center of town, as this is the only area left for development in the central and southern areas of Jerusalem.
